What is True Colours? True Colours is a non-profit youth company with a goal: To expose our members to all aspects of the performing arts which will ultimately enhance their growth and knowledge for future endeavors. We strive to provide an opportunity and place for students, who are already training, to focus in on their performance skills and contribute to upcoming productions. Members are required to take a minimum of one “core” course and two “electives” at any dance or performing arts school, be twelve to eighteen years of age, trained in dance for at least 5 years and have had a least 3 years experience performing in dance festivals and or showcases. (True Colours Youth Company of Performing Arts director reserves the right to make exceptions). We encourage our company members to bring their own unique style and presence to the group and maintain their individuality.
What do we do?: We meet Saturdays from 12-4pm and work on choreography set by a professional experienced in one of the many styles of dance. Last years show entitled, “Freedom”, included lyrical ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, hip hop, Indian/contemporary fusion, musical theatre and poetry. This performance showcased an eclectic artistic interpretation of “freedom” from some of BC’s most talented choreographers. What a show it was!
True Colours Artistic Director, Livea Gill, is thrilled to announce, “Colouring Emotions” as the title of our 3rd annual performance. Slated for Saturday May 23rd, 2009 at the Sid Williams Theatre, it is sure to be another tremendous success.
